Doggarts and Lockeys Bus

Bishop Market Place with Doggart’s store in the background. This used to be the main centre of Bishop Auckland where everyone came to the market by bus from all over the area. It was the main market town for the Dales, and Thursdays attracted farmers to the mart held there. It also helped in that the local hostelries were allowed to stay open all day. Doggart’s store was the main department store in the area where everyone got their ‘Doggart’s Club’ out for clothes etc.
