Escomb is situated two miles west of Bishop Auckland in the Wear Valley. It was built around 675 AD with stone possibly from the Roman Fort at Binchester.
This painting was commissioned by the church wardens to be presented to Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex when she officially opened the new community centre.
‘Special thanks to Mr Eric Thompson for the painting of the Escomb Saxon Church, this gift is very much appreciated.’ ~ Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex
